Abhilakshay Educational and Welfare Society, in collaboration with the National Medicinal Plants Board (NMPB), Ministry of Ayush, Government of India, distributed thousands of Ashwagandha saplings free of cost to farmers, students and local residents in Sonipat.
The campaign aims to promote medicinal farming, encourage a shift from traditional crops to high-value medicinal plants, and increase farmers' income. The event at MHU Regional Mushroom Research Centre, Murthal, saw participation of over 150 farmers, students and agricultural experts.
Padma Shri Kanwal Singh Chauhan emphasised the need for farmers to adopt medicinal farming alongside traditional crops. Dr. Ajay Yadav highlighted the rising domestic and international demand for Ashwagandha and its low water requirement.
President Palki Verma noted that Ashwagandha not only boosts farmer income but also benefits women's health by reducing stress, anxiety and improving sleep and immunity. Secretary Ankit Pilania reiterated the Society's goal of connecting farmers and youth with medicinal farming.
